Synthetic sponges can be made out of many types of material, either from cellulose wood fibres foamed to form a sponge, or by similar action with polyether, polyester and PVA, these are made by bubbling or foaming an emulsion of the synthetic material whilst evaporating the solvent off to leave the sponge structure. The emulsion is likely sprayed to aerate.
