Well usually this means one of two things. You either have severely damaged rings or a cracked cylinder wall. Although you may also have a valve stuck open.

Most likely, you will be required take the car to the garage where new rings or pistons may be required to fix the current problem.

Remove the spark plug and position the piston in that cylinder at top dead center. Install an adapter that will attach an air compressor hose into the spark plug hole. Find where the air is going to. Exhaust-burnt exhaust valve, up through intake- burnt intake valve, crankcase-burnt or broke piston ring, radiator-blown head gasket or cracked head or block.

Take the vehicle to your mechanic and have them do a compression test. They will be able to tell you if it is only one valve or a more systemic issue with the engine. This can be a very costly repair to take care of.
