In order to test a cam sensor you will need a haynes book and the harness layout along with the ground location. You can then test it out.

A repair like this is totally doable at home even for someone who's new to car repairs. You're going to need a few things. A good tool set is handy, a set of sockets, and basic items. You're going to need your car manual, which typically includes a schematic inside.

First I would start off my testing the connector leading to the CAM sensor, with a volt meter to make sure your getting voltage. Then your going to want to use a check the resistance in the sensor, set your volt meter to check to see if you have continuity in the sensor itself. If it not correct replace.

There are several ways to test the cam sensor. A resistance or test at the sensor terminals while cranking the engine will determine if the sensor itself is bad. Very very rarely will a cam sensor be the cause of a vehicle no start.

The best thing for you to do about that is to call your local dealership and talk to them about it. Some things you cant do those things on your own. But if you call the dealership they will be able to give you all the details you will need for having it done or doing it yourself.

Get an OBDII scan tool with a screen, connect it. get an rpm reading then rev up the engine. if you get a reading the sensor is working!
