How do I repair a crack in the back of my firebox?

I have a Heatilator fireplace.

Turn off the gas. You will need to fill the crack with a heat proof (NOT heat resistant) caulk. Allow to set 24 hours before reigniting the fireplace.

the crack can be closed with a sheet of metal and it can closed with the help of hydraulic refractory cement.

Usually, any type of mortar or epoxy will work to fix a crack in the back of a firebox. Just be sure that it is fireproof.
