How do I remove instruments from an mp3?

This just isn't possible. MP3's, like most sound files, can handle two channels (stereo) at most. To isolate instrumentation you would require the original source materials in which each instrument or voice existed on its own, clean track. The mixdown process during audio creation is where these individual tracks are essentially mashed down into one sound source.

you cannot. you can only do that with wav files or if you have the original mix from the studio. you can try cutting out some of the frequencies of that particular instrument.

you might need it to be a midi file and run it through software or use some sort of music making software.

If you're just looking for the vocal track with no instruments, it's going to be very difficult without fancy software. A mp3 is a compressed audio file with all the layers of instruments squished together. There really is no easy way to separate / remove instruments in that format.
