If a loan was satisfied, the leinholder should have sent the title and the contract stamped paid in full. Take or mail a copy to the state's department of motor vehicle (DMV)to have the leinholders name removed. If a lein still shows, you will have to contact the leinholder and have them send a lein release to the DMV.

You can remove a lien against your car title by satisfying the lien, and making sure you have a notarized statement that you have satisfied the lien. Once the lien is satisfied, you will need to have a new car title generated by the appropriate department in your state. You also need to contact your insurance company.

The lien was probably out there by a workman or company that you had do some work on the car. If you took car without paying then they can put a lien on it. You can either pay the bill or else take them to court to remove the lien.

The first choice is to pay the debt for the lien, for which the lien is removed. The second option is to determine if the lien is illegal - for example, against the wrong person. Then you file for it to be removed based on it being incorrect.
