If the children are old enough to have definite likes and dislikes, I would offer them a choice between three different themes. Such as pirates with a treasure hunt; explorers using clues or maps; or travel with a fantastic, imaginary destination. If they're very young children I would go with a generic balloon or teddy bear picnic theme.

First go to a local party store to get ideas for a theme for the party. Next get a list of people you would like to invite. Finally select a date and send out invitations.

Choose a neutral game like a scavenger hunt or bigger and better, and center the party around the game. You could even have boy and girl teams.

Decide what your budget is and how many guests you want to invite. Then decide if you want an inside or outside party. You can have a petting zoo come to your house or rent a large blow-up play piece if you want the party to stay outside. Having a party inside only requires decorations, cake and icecream.

It depends on the age of the child in question. I would consider supervision being the most important thing, after that its really about taste and what the child likes.

Make sure the games are ones that both boys and girls would enjoy. Do not plan overly aggressive games. You may want to have separate goodie bags for the boys and the girls. If you have teams make sure it is not boys against girls.

Talk with the boy or girl about what decorations and colors they like. Decide if you are only inviting children of the same gender of your child or if the party will have both genders. choose games that are appropriate for the child and their guests (boys may prefer more sports type games, while girls may not).

You should plan it depending on what the girl or boy likes and plan it according to what age they are turning. If they are younger bright colors are usually pretty good and parties with certain themes or characters are nice as well.
