Regular brushing will take care of loose hair, dirt, sand, etc. that may negatively affect the dog's coat. Also, you can rub the dog with a towel or chamois cloth.

Invest in a really good shampoo with a conditioner. There are a lot of good natural ones on the market. Always brush on a regular basis.
