The first step would be to check the voltage of the battery. a low voltage or no voltage on the battery means that it is not getting a charge from the alternator.

turn on the engine when the car is stalled ,take out the negative battery cable,if the car engine is stopped then the alternator is bad, check the headlights while the car is parked press the accelerator if the ahead light is high and dim when you press the accelerator then the alternator is not working.

To test an alternator you can take it to a local parts store that tests them and have them check it for free or check it yourself. If you have a multimeter you can check the alternators output to see if it is charging the battery like it should.

You need to take it to have it checked, that would be the only way to find out what is wrong with it.
