The size of the droppings can help determine the size of the animal and what is contained in the droppings such as seeds or bones can tell what the diet is and then you have to deduced.

If the scat consists of plant matter such as berry seeds or grass, it is from an herbivore such as a deer. If the scat contains animal remains such as fur or bones, it is from a carnivore such as a bobcat or hawk. Omnivore scat, such as a bear's, will contain both plant and animal matter.
