Also known as the corn plant, pruning can occur anytime, especially if the stem gets to leggy. The rule of thumb as to where to cut is just above a node on the stem. New shoots will eventually sprout at the cutting.

Pruning a dracaena plant (otherwise known as an Indoor Corn Plant) is simple; Saw the main cane at the desired level and it will sprout new leaves.

You will want to cut the leaves near the tip about one inch in from the current length. If you cut more the plant may die.

You want to cut the top of the plant off dirctly above a set of leaves. Never cut more than a third of the plant at a time.

Just cut the top, or If desired cut the top and start the cutting and replant the top. They are grown as hedges, so you might try trading plants.

All Dracaenas can be pruned almost anywhere along their stems/trunks. If your plant is getting too tall, make a clean cut at the desired height. Within weeks there should be signs of side branches breaking through below the cut. Try not to prune more than 1/3 of the plant mass at a time.

You can cut the plant to the desired height just above the bud. You can then place the stick in a jar of water in a well light room.
