The temperature, and thus the soil, should be warm before planting the bulbs. During germination, the soil should be kept moist but don't allow it to become soggy. Once they break ground and the night temperature is at least 60 degrees F, the bulbs are ready to be planted outside.

Plant the bulbs in well drained soil but in a location that doesn't pool water. Sun isn't the biggest problem for the bulbs, it's the wind. Wind destroys the big leaves. Be sure to plant in a filtered sunlight location that doesn't get too much wind.

Plan to plant them in a area with good drainage and filtered sunlight. Also allow for wind protection as these plants have large leaves. Plant in holes about 2" deep about 12" apart. Water well after planting - soak the soil. The soil should be warm when planting, and the plants will sprout soon.

In order to plant caladium bulbs we want to select warm soil. This temperature will allow the plant to grow fast. Wind may act as a villain. So we want to keep it away from too much wind. Because these plants have large leaves. We want to keep them in a filtered sunlight location.

They need to be planted 6 inches deep and not until the soil has warmed to at least 65 degrees.
