Remove the xbox from it's location, clean sides with a damp cloth. Use a can of compressed air to clean dust out of the vents. Be careful not to get any liquid in the vents. Polish the metal components with a soft cloth, and remove any stains on the exterior.

My husbands X box is always getting dusty so I use a thin wide paintbrush to get into all the little holes, and I brush all the dust out from all the smallest areas.I would not suggest opening the X box itself,you will do more harm then good.

The best (and safest) way to do this is to use canned air to clear the dust from the disk drive and vents.
