Depending of course what type vehicle and the existing condition of the exaust system should be taken into concern before the actual attempt. If the exaust bolts are heavily rusted, probably a torch will be needed to remove the old bolts. Replace with a new gasket and new bolts.

Spray WD-40 on the bolts at the union and remove them. Pull the exhaust apart, remove the defective gasket, install a replacement, bolt the exhaust back together.

You must start by finding the leaky gasket. Remove whatever parts are surrounding the gasket replace with the new and tighten parts back on according to torque specs.

Obviously you need to pull of the old manifold or header and install a new gasket. Make sure to torque fasteners down to factory recommended specs otherwise it will leak again. If you still get leak make sure both surfaces are square and install new locking fasteners to keep them from backing out do to heat cycling.

The best way to fix this type of leak would be purchasing a sealer. The sealer will be able to fix the leak and you wont have to worry about further leaks.
