How do I fix a clunking noise in the rear end of a Mercedes 190E?

There are 5 locating side in the rear suspension. Each link has 2 bushings. Check to see if there is any freeplay in the bushings due to dry rot or deteriorating rubber. If so,replace that link. Also,check your subframe mounts for settling.

Remove the rear plate on the differential. Look for any damage, if any fix or replace parts, replace cover with new gasket and refill with differential oil.

Typically a clunking would indicate some type of suspension issue. I would check all the rear suspension components making sure everything is snug. Also check the springs for sagging.

There are 5 locating links at the rear suspension. Each link has 2 bushings. If the bushing is dry then replace it. OR you have to replace rear flex joint.
