Aspergers is an autism spectrum disorder. Given the severity of the disorder, this is best done by a psychiatrist or neurologist, preferably one who treats pediatric patients. A psychiatrist is better than a psychologist because they can prescribe medication if needed.

If you believe your child's social and communication skills really lag behind his/her peers talk to your pediatrician. If your pediatrician agrees there is a real discrepancy or problem you will likely be referred to a specialist for further evaluation.
