Anyone interested in filing for unemployment benefits should obtain a copy of the State Unemployment Benefits fact sheet that is published by the United States Department of Labor. The requirements vary from state-to-state and cannot be described in general terms. Each state has specific procedures that must be followed in order to collect benefits.

First you need to look up your local unemployment office for the county you live in and contact them. They will be able to give you specific instructions on where to go to file for unemployment, and tell you what documentation you need to bring. Every state has different laws regarding unemployment benefits.

You will have to contact your local unemployment office to see what type of paperwork you will have to fill out, once you do this you will speak with someone there who will guide you how the entire process works and tell you what all your can receive. Good luck.

You will need to go down to your nearest state unemployment office to fill out a UI application. You will also need to provide a copy of your separation notice.

You must first make sure you have all the legal "separation" paperwork from your previous employer including the reason you were laid off - aftewards, take the paperwork to your local unemployment office - after completing several forms, you should begin receiving your unemployment benefits in two to three weeks.
