How do I fight the homeowners association?

Every HOA has an appeal procedure in their covenants. You should exhaust the appeals procedure there first. After that has been exhausted you only other avenue is unfortunatly a court. If it reaches that far a consultation with a lawyer is essential.

If you oppose a decision, you will be heard at a HOA meeting. You will be expected to present your argument along with supporting documentation.

Start your fight by writing a letter. Avoid emotional and accusatory statements. Appeal to the association's sense of reason. Then ask a lawyer to review your contract.

You will have to start a petition probably and then read the bylaws of your association on how to go about disputes about the rules or regulations. You will have to attend a meeting.
