The same way everybody else who ever had a male child did. Don't treat them like a kid anymore, but don't treat them like an adult either. Set guidelines.

Listen more to him and understand he is experiencing a conflict within himself and is also trying to experiment with some of life's experiences. Do not be too domineering but let him be able to talk to you without you judging him and give open advice not rules to be followed.

Your being tested. Remember what you were like when you were 17, did you like your parents, did you listen to them, did you sneak around, come in late, had a dirty room, were inconsiderate of others. What did you do or what did you want from your parents. He's becoming a man and wants to be treated like one.

You should listen to him when he talks to you. Children in this age want to make party and maybe to try things which aren't harmless maybe to do drugs. You shouldn't forbid it because it would be worse than it is. You should time for him and give him space.
