How do I connect a light and fan with a light from one switch?

The light and switch should be wired as normal and a three-core and earth cable will need to be linked from the switched supply to the fan. One core of this will be permanently live, one neutral, and the final core should be the switched live - the same as goes to the light.

Fans have internal wiring for both a light kit and the fan motor. All of them are designed to work with constant power (what you have from the switch). Just realize that when you hook it up the fan and light will only work when the switch is flipped on.

If you are wanting to connect this as you stated you will have to make sure that the wiring is set up right.
