There are different theories on this - the usual rule of thumb is choose lighter, paler colors to make your room look larger. However, some interior designers claim using a deep bold color in a small room can have a great effect. To decide what's best for you, buy paint samples and paint test swatches to see what works better.

Lighter tones help make the room look bigger. Choose your color and the shade you think you'd like... then go two shades lighter than that!
