To change freon,You need to use a reclaimer.This is used too capture the freon and filter out impurities and store for later releasing freon into the air is illegal.

Due to recent laws it is illegal to obtain or install freon without a license. Most large auto mechanic shops and a/c repair services will have someone on staff licensed to do this work. If you take the dehumidifier to them you may be able to get freon added for an affordable price.

you should never have to change the refrigerant in any appliance once it is put in the appliance it is good forever. That being said refrigerant could have leaked out of the machine and need to be replaced but this should be done by a qualified technician.
