Contact your local state association, for example here in Tennessee it is the TSSAA. These associations are usually easily found by a search engine online, or you could contact the Athletic Department at a local high school. There may be a test or an assement you have to pass.

Each state has different requirements. Check you state's High School Athletic Association website for details. Usually, "ref"ing requires training courses and practical referee experience. This can usually be obtained through local college recreation departments.

High school referees for any sport are always in demand. Ask existing referees for the requirementsneeded in your area as requirements change from state to state. You might also want to try refereeing at lower levels such a Pop Warner or Pee Wee Leagues to again experince and to see if this would be something you would enjoy.

Well to become a referee, you need to have some existing experience as well. Talk to the coach of the team and state your desire to volunteer as a referee. In that manner, you can also say you offer your services for a desired salary and state your experience as well.

Most high school referees are teachers. Sometimes you can go through the state and be a referee for playoff games. Id first start at a school though and see if they will let you ref some local games.
