How do I abrade fabric?

You can do this by lightly rubbing sandpaper on the fabric you are using. This technique works particularly well with denim. Any firm, scratchy surface will abrade fabric but the pressure you apply when doing so will determine how abraded the fabric is.

From what I have found there are two main way. One way is to way the fabric in a washing machine with some type of abrading medium like sand. The other way involves using a special abrading tool and rubbing it on the surface of the fabric.
