It didn't change America; America had already changed around the time Woodstock festival was organized. It was a reflection of this change: the music, the people, the lifestyle all were practiced in this festival and it was 3 days of pure hippie community life with music.

Woodstock changed America in that it showed that the "hippy movement" was now mainstream. Politicians and the national news media now took notice. These are an organized people who could not be ignored and must be taken seriously. Before Woodstock hippies were generally centralized in San Fancisco. Woodstock added validity to the phrase "we are everywhere".

It most definitely changed America. It came to symbolize the cultural revolution that had been going on in America for several years in the mid to late 1960s. Woodstock was the ultimate symbol of the "counter culture." It was drugs, sex and rock-n-roll, and Woodstock showed that huge numbers of people were accepting this lifestyle and kind of music.
