European nations such as Spain, France and the British all wanted their power and wealth extended by taking territory in north America .The Spanish took hold of the southern section gulf of Mexico/California while the British and France allied with Indians of the east coast in their conflict of land control.The Paris Peace Settlement of 1763 established British control.

This is easily explained by the French and Indian War (Seven Years War). Europe was fighting their battles among the colonies for more control over North American land in order to drive the French and Native Americans more Western and north into what is now Canada. Both Europe and the colonies later had to pay taxes for this war.
