How can you verify mineral right ownerships?

I think there is a group doing some unlawful work in my county, and I want to do something about it.

The ownership of mineral rights is on file in the deed records in your county courthouse. When there are oil leases on those mineral rights, those are also filed in the deed records. The persons who own mineral rights are not directly involved in drilling or mining them. That would be an operator whose name usually appears on the lease.

Mineral right ownerships will be posted on or near the lands boundaries where the minerals are being extracted, still common with gold and other minerals will be some sort of notice that claims have been staked which will be registered with the local county government for public inspection or a business with local or regional offices which distributes mineral claims.

Checking legal documents and titles of ownership to the property would be a first step. However, even though someone owns the property, they may have sold the mineral rights.
