To start your Windows XP computer in the safe mode, either restart or begin a new session. As the computer is booting up, press the F8 key. Select the safe mode option from the boot menu. In the safe mode you do necessary repairs or software adjustments.

usually the log-in in safe mode is damaged by an operative system corruption, so you'll need to re-install it in order to fix it. you can use the "fix" option in the windows installation so you wont lose any data

To setup safeboot, open the 'start' menu and select 'Run.. '. Enter 'msconfig. exe' and select the 'BOOT. INI' tab from the window that opens. Check the '/SAFEBOOT' box, click 'OK', then reboot. Once you have rebooted, you can reopen 'msconfig. exe' and experiment with re-enabling, startup options in the 'Startup' tab.
