You can do something as simple as changing gears to spin the motor faster. Using sets of performance parts designed to work in the same lower (idle to 5500 usually) powerband.

You have to take the car to your local car garage, or possibly even the car dealership. Ask them to increase the torque. Experienced mechanics will know the process required in completing this task. They will probably decide to supercharge the engine, which will increase the torque, the horsepower, and the speed.

It will really depends on the vehicle. Typically you would want to either increase displacement or shorten the intake runner length. You could also install a new camshaft.

A good way to increase your torque is to increase the compression or add a turbo charger, increase your air intake too, but thats expensive.

Change out the engine to include more cylinders. However, in same car, here is an example: I drive an Audi, and when my steering wheel is turned hard in one direction as if ready to turn in an intersection, I apply gas quickly, the acceleration blasts through, increasing torque.

To increase horsepower or torque you need to modify the engine. However in some case to improve torque you have to give up overall horsepower. So swapping intakes can gain a few ft/lbs but reduce the top end horsepower. Modifications like headers, cams, and forced induction typically increase both. The level of customization depends on how much more you want.
