Encourage staff to take up improvement projects that reduce the time and effort to complete tasks, so that fewer team members does not mean more work per remaining person. Reward projects that bring down cycle time or time per transaction, so that staff see that the remaining employees are still valued, not just receiving a "work smarter, not harder" mandate.

Tell your employees that you're striving for a quality, tight-knit team who works effectively together. Use words like "synergy" and explain this gives you more opportunity to recognize individuals' greatness.

Don't let the moral of your employees slip. Just go on as you normally would and DO NOT stress and run around like a chicken with it's head cut off.

You need positive press so your market doesn't write you off, but most important, you need to reassure your workers that your company is viable. They are your best press.
