Using bricks for paving is much the same as using paving slabs. It is just a little more time consuming. I recommend thinking of the pattern that you want first then laying it out (without laying it) to make sure it looks right. You need to use side of bricks and have a perfectly flat bed for them to sit.

Brick pavers are best set in a sand bed with compacted sand in the joints. If installed in sand bed pavers will be easy to level or set to slope for drainage and will remain in the set position. Can be set on top of concrete with sand bed also.

If they porch is on concrete or the ground then pavers are probably a good choice and will provide a good surface for use. If the porch is a wooden deck or something similar then the necessary support would probably not justify the cost.
