Explain to your daughter the benefits of physical exercise. Tell her that being active will keep her healthy, help her to look good, and make her feel better about herself. It is also a necessary part of life, so it is goodto become accustomed to it.

First, is she medically healthy? If adolescent, is the issue a matter of privacy in locker rooms, etc. If neither, engage the family doctor in the discussion of physical health.

It is hard to get through to kids, so I would explain that if she doesn't exercise she will be fat and unhealthy and other kids will tease her.

Depending on her age, you could show her the movie Fast Food Nation. It is an eye-opener to the dangers of poor eating habits and minimal physical education.
