Even if you're using dial-up, this can be achieve. Buying a switchboard is one option. They are not that expensive and can be found online or off. It's a box that has multiple jacks on it. If you have broadband, dsl or wi-fi you should be able to receive calls without a problem. You can also receive fax via email.

Using the proper software for configuring the modem, we can get the phone calls and faxes. There will not be any disturbance to receive calls while online. Again using fax machine also we can get faxes without interfering the online works. Using a broadband connection also we can get the same results.

When the person that wants to call you /send you a fax is done, your phone should ring up if you wait a call or the fax should beep if you wait a fax. Then, just answer the phone or wait for the fax to be printed.
