I think it is possible, you just need to make sure that neither one of you dwell on the past experience. Don't mention the bad, just work on your friendship.

That is going to be very tough. When you asked the roommate to move out, you essentially said that you do not want them in your life. You can try to repair the relationship by saying that you two can still be friends but just not compatible for living together.
