You need to purchase a tuner card that accepts standard RCA (red-yellow-white) connectors for input and then plug a vcr into the input and record as you would off the air. Pixela makes several good products for this.

To transfer video from tape to a computer you can plug a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable into your camera and your computer and use a Non-linear editing software such as imovie, avid, or sony vegas to capture the footage.

Your going to need an analog to digital tape converter. This will convert any Vhs tape to either Firewire or Usb. These devices are usually cheap and go for about $40.

If you buy a Hauppauge PVR you can hook it up to your VCR and record and watch tapes on your PC. The instructions that come with it will explain everything.
