If you're looking for shabby chic, sand the doors with a fine grit sandpaper to remove paint from edges in a 'worn-away' pattern. Wipe them down and seal. There are also antiquing kits which apply a yellowing kind of glaze. Crackle glaze, especially after the sandpaper treatment can give an older, antique finish.

Do some heavy sanding on the edges of the cabinets, to knock off some of the paint - maybe even lightly distress with chains - then apply stain with a soft rag- and immediately wipe off, letting the stain penetrate the distressed wood. Keep applying until you find desired affect.

Depending on how old your cabinets are and the condition of the paint, you may have to actually do some stripping of the paint. Because this is a popular look, you can easily find kits at most home stores that will direct you thru the process of giving your cabinets an antique look.

Purchase a polyurethane with a slightly yellow tint, or purchase a yellow/brown shade of latex paint. Using a dry paint brush, dip just the tip of the brush in the polyrethane or paint, and streak it across the cabinets in a single direction.

For antiqued look, kitchen cabinet handles and borders could be done with some brass embossed designed things. You can decorate with some antique look utensils in your kitchen, silver ware can be used.
