Read, read, read until your eyes bleed. It is quite easy to tell a person who reads from one who does not. Reading enhances vocabulary, spelling, syntax, idiomatic expression and understanding of allusion. TV and movies may help non-native speakers, although most t. v. and screen writers have terrible grammar, which is then transfered to the student.

I'm taking your question seriously when I suggest watching TV. It is a great way to learn everyday English, and I personally know it to be successful. Pimsleur has excellent affordable CD's and there are free lessons online, but English as a Second Language (ESL) courses through your school system (For adults, not just children) are BEST, and very affordable.

Find someone else that speaks English and practice everyday speaking in English. Just like with any other skill, practice is the key to success at speaking a new language effectively.
