Use your 8mm projector, a digital camcorder (or a modern digital camera with video recording capability) and a dark room. Setup your camcorder against the projector screen, turn off the lights and start recording. Try a couple of times to find the best setup. For transferring the video file to your PC consult the manual of your camcorder/camera.

Well, to transfer the movies, you need a special wire. You can obtain this wire from any major hardware superstore. You can also purchase it online off of ebay or amazon. Then use the wire to transfer footage from the movie to the computer and it will be done in no time.

I chose some professional service offering a fair deal. Any hobbyist solution lacks the expensive hardware of having single film pictures properly projected onto a digital camera CCD, which prevents pixel blurring compared to filming off a screen. And there is FPS conversion problems you need good software for.

You must first digitize it, from Film to DVD Disc. Most photo stores will have this service. Once it is on DVD, you can copy the movies to your PC.

Determine which output-format/media you want (CDs, files, DVDs, ...). Determine which-outputs your-8mm-camcorder/VCR has: Composite, FireWire, S-Video, USB, ... Check whether your-computer has appropriate-inputs matching those-outputs; If not, then get an-adapter or video-capture-card with appropriate-inputs and appropriate-video-editing-software (usually-bundled-with). Play your-8mm-video-tapes & capture with your-video-editing-software, then edit/split into more-manageable "clips" or "scenes".

If you have a DVD HD camcorder then you can easily transfer your 8MM movies to your computer. Take a shot of the film while playing on a projector.

Rent a 8mm projector and get a Digital video camera. Play the video while you record it with the digital one.
