Better Business Bureau(if you live in U.S.) will have recurrent updates on standard practices of the particular business you are researching. Most businesses will release annual or semi annual financial statements, and are generally released to the public. Request one through contact with the business itself, or through the BBB.

If the company is publicly held, you may request a copy of the annual report in which the company's investments and finances are detailed. If the company is privately held, it may or may not have information available. You may request info or search online for insider reports.
