A Pit Bull is a very special breed of dog that requires a great deal of responsibility and patience. The best place to go is from a pound, shelter, or rescue though in many areas they are illegal. You should check your area's laws on the breed before anything else. With any dog there is a financial responsibility, be ready.

You won't get it free, but shelters all over the country are BEGGING you to help them save these fine dogs from death. This is the most abused, seized and abandoned breed in the country. PLEASE, PLEASE, pay the small fee and rescue your future dear companion pit from a shelter. They'll come vetted, behavior tested and loving you forever.

I might suggest looking on craigslist, or going to your local kennels and adopting a dog that someone else has given up.

If you don't have enough money to pay one you should think twice about getting a dog. Vet care is very expensive, not to mention other things that are needed.

In order to find a free puppy, you need to do the following: consistently read the pet section of your local newspaper (and maybe even those from surrounding areas) to find people who may want to give away their puppies. Also, check your local pound, because they may have some available. You might also find one by word of mouth.

Sadly, pits are illegal in many counties in my area, but because of that fact many people have to give away their pitbulls on craigslist.
