Usually problems with turn signals are due to a blown flasher relay. You can pick one up at an auto parts store for cheap. It's a plug and play affair.

Usually when flasher relay stops working or gets out of order, the problem with turn signal occur. The solution is very simple and easy and you can do it yourself. You need to replace the relay which is available at any auto parts store and it is not expensive. It is located under the driver's side dash.

The flasher relay is bad. It is a simple change. Remove a single plug. Locating it thou can be difficult. Check under the hood and under the dashboard.

First, make sure the problem is not a burnt out bulb. Check to see that the wiring to and from the lights is in tact and not corroded. Check all of the car's fuses to make sure that one is not blown out. If none of these solutions work, a mechanic will have to perform a computer diagnostic.

The turn signal stem on the Pontiac Grand Am is very narrow, and often times, the wire will come loose. It's just a bad design. To fix it, you'll have to remove the stem and tighten the screw holding the "R" wire with a flathead screwdriver. It's probably about a 10 minute job.
