Use a keyboard cleaning kit. Use the small brush and air puffer to go over all surfaces and cracks. This should keep most of the dust out of your machine.

You will want to get a can or compressed air. Never use any sort of cleaner on the electric components. You can pretty simply open the system with the right tools and just use the air to blow out dust and keep the parts clean.

Unplug it and place it in good light to see all the dust. Purchase a can of "air" from any store. You want to open and dismantle the small parts. Blast the whole thing with short bursts of air. Also try a CD cleaner which comes in the form of a CD with little brushes to keep the lens clean.

You want to make sure there is no dust or other particles in the disk tray or the fan area. This is the most important thing. Also, be sure to clean the laser lens with a cleaning CD. Those may not be as easy to find as they once were, but give a look at an electronics store.

you can clean out most of the dust in a PS2 with some air duster that you can find at wall mart, there are also some disk reader cleaners in the form of a CD you can use to clean the laser eye of the disk read module. You can also remove the base screws and air dust the boards.

I've done this twice. I found a forum that discusses how to open up your console and use can air to clean it. Just run a search for PS2 forum. You should know that if you open your PS2 you will void the warranty.
