First off I would ask the store where the jewlery is made and/or repaired. If this is done right in the store ask what he/she specializes in.

Information like this can be verified by asking to speak to the bench jeweler. If they have one you will be able to talk to them.

Not all stores will have a bench jeweler who is more experienced in stone setting, goldsmith, engraving and brazing. However, many jewelers have onsite staff that can complete most request.
