Biodegradable waste can be defined as any waste that was originally produced from natural--plant or animal--sources. Such products can be dissolved or broken down by other living organisms. Basically, if bacteria can break down the product or substance, then it is considered to be biodegradable, and such a process is not necessarily constrained by any specific time frame.

Biodegradable waste is defined as any waste that degrades naturally, by rotting or decaying, over a given period of time. One criteria includes organic waste such as plants, paper, and carcasses. There are other criteria but you'd have to search for them yourself.
