The tragus is the part of your ear just outside of the ear canal, the front part that's closest to your eyes. This part tends to have more cartilage than your outer lobe. A tragus earring is for this part of your ear.

Because of the thickness of the tragus which contains cartilage as opposed to the lobe which is soft, tragus earrings would require a longer post. Other than that there should be no difference depending on the type of earring you want to display. A long dangle or a shepherd's hook wouldn't sit well or display nicely.

The tragus is the protruding part of your ear directly in front of the ear canal. The tragus is made up of cartilidge compared to getting the lobes of the ear pierced which is made up of fatty tissues. Tragus earrings can be a hoop or a stud like earrings that you would put in your lobes.

These earrings are usually used for body piercing. They have a much longer shank to allow going through more flesh.
