Each country classifies its films differntly (more or less lenient). It depends on what is shown in the film. Violence, sex scences, language, nudity, drug use, spirtual themes, and horror are factors that affects the classification. The amount of time any of these things are used is taken into account.

Films are classified into the the type of genre they best fit into. Typical genres include drama, comedy, western, and horror. These genres are based upon what is the intent of the film. Is the intent to make people laugh or scare people? Is the film portraying a dramatic event or taking place in the old west?
