It's more that Internet Explorer causes Windows XP problems. IE has a reputation for being very insecure, so normal browsing can be dangerous to the operating system.

To be completely honest, and while Windows Xp is a fantastic program in general, Internet Explorer has always been Bugged and weak. Most people now a days download the popular Fire Fox web browser. It has alot of features that IE just doesn't have, i dare say it's a near perfect web browser.
