Does the US still make fifty cent pieces?

The 50-cent piece, a Kennedy half dollar, is still minted. However, it is usually only produced to satisfy collector demand, not circulated for the general population. A collector set is often 2 rolls of 20 pieces each, $20 worth of money, being sold for $32.95 for 2010.

I don't think they still make them. I also don't think that they are that valuable, because I have gotten them as change many times, just like $2 don't have any more value than $2.

Yes, the United States Mint still makes fifty cent pieces. These pieces are still quite common, which makes them only worth their face value. The value of a coin only goes up when it becomes rare, which takes quite awhile. There are even a plentiful supply of two dollar bills.
