it really depends on the county the resources they have and the crime. most mugshots are kept on an dedicated server and shared with local,state and federal law law enforcement Agencies. as for older mugshots they keep the physical copy in county storage.

All counties forward mug shots to the state. The county can also access state databases of mug shots. The same is true for license plates, warrant information, and identification records - these records are kept in both county and state databases that are updated and shared. In some counties, they simply upload and use the state database.
