Does the address field on a W-9 require a physical address or a PO Box?t

I had this same question and *just* called the IRS 800 number to find out -- PO Box *or* physical address is acceptable.

It does not matter if it is used with a PO BOX or a physical address. As long as it is the correct address so they can mail the W-9 form on time without having to delay your filing for taxes. If you have to change your address, it is best to call the former employer to get it fix.

W-9 form is not what you receive from an employer a w-2 is. w-9 is an entity requesting your tax information to keep for the IRS in case of dispute  add a comment

According to the W-9 form, the address should be the number, street and apartment or suite number. The requester retains the form; it's not generally filed with the IRS.
